Why would I need a VA.gov account? A VA.gov account is necessary to apply for VA benefits, submit and track a VA claim, update your personal and contact information, schedule and manage health care appointments through the VA, and refill prescriptions. A VA.gov account is essential for secure, convenient, and unified access to all VA online services. Without it, you can still use VA benefits by phone, mail, or in person, but you won’t be able to log in to online resources until you set one up.
What is an ID.me account? An ID.me account is one of the two ways to verify your identity with the VA. It is utilized as part of the VA's broader effort to protect Veteran' identities and private information.
I have a DS Logon, do I still need ID.me or Login.gov? Yes, the VA ceased DS Login services on September 30th, 2025. Veterans who did not switch by that date can still access VA services but must create an ID.me account or Login.gov
What is a Login.gov account? A Login.gov account is simply an alternative to creating a ID.me account to verify your identity with the VA. It also is utilized as part of the VA's broader effort to protect Veteran' identities and private information. You do not need to establish accounts for both and it is up to your individual preference on which one to select.
I don't know anything about computers, how am I supposed to create these accounts? If you find yourself in a position where you are limited in leveraging VA services or creating accounts, please let the Post Officers know and there are plenty of our members who can help you navigate any technical challenges. We are all here to help you!
How do I contact my county Veteran Service Officer (VSO) and what can they do to assist me? A great local county resource to help you is Mr. David Lydon and he can be reached at 386-313-4014. Our community VSAs can assist Veterans in obtaining VA benefits for service-connected disability compensation, non-service-connected pension, and home loan guaranty benefits. The VSOs can also assist surviving spouses, children, and parents of deceased service members and Veterans with obtaining death benefits such as a burial plot in a national cemetery, reimbursed burial allowances, government grave marker or headstones, government life insurance proceeds and other survivor benefits. You can call and schedule an appointment to see your county VSO at 386-313-4114.
I think my records were destroyed in the 1973 fire at the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC)? The 1973 NPRC fire may destroyed the records held for Veterans who were discharged from the Army and the Air Force during certain period of time. Your records may have been destroyed if you separated from the Army between 1 November 1912 and January 1, 1960. The fire destroyed 80% of the Army records during this period. Records impacted under the Air Force were for those Veterans who separated between 25 September 1947 and 1 January 1964. The fire destroyed 75% of the records held for Veterans discharged during this period with the surname "Hubbard" and running through the end of the alphabet. If you believe you were impacted, there is a process through the VA to reconstruct military records destroyed by the fire. You can learn more about that process here.
